Kerry Brain our Forest of Dean Care Coordinator at Bramble Home Care

Updated: Apr 26

After leaving school I studied Health & Social care at RFDC and after completing my 2-year course I went to work in a residential setting. Unsure if I had made the right decision as I felt the care sector was not for me and sadly, I changed my career path.

After having my Daughter Dionne, I was given an opportunity with a local domiciliary provider to apply for a support worker role. I was very anxious as I was unsure if I would feel the same as I did when I left residential care. I was told by a family member to give myself at least 3 weeks to settle in and find my own routine & I can say I haven’t looked back. I have now been working in community care for over 15 years & absolutely love it and have found my passion.

Kerry Brain - Care Coordinator

I started as a support worker in the community, this led to helping with admin work in the office around my domiciliary calls. I then applied for the Care Coordinator position and have been doing this for 12 years and I can say every day is different.

I am very conscientious with the runs that are established so that they will work for both clients and staff and make sure they receive appropriate care and support. I am very much a people person and always give time if staff or clients need it.

The role requires good communication, being organised and having problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of client needs. Some days can be more challenging than others however as a team we all work together to make sure no client goes without care, and we continue to provide a safe service.

I have now been with Bramble Home Care for over 2 years and never in any doubt that I made the right decision for me joining the Forest of Dean branch, being able to help grow the service with the help of a dedicated team that Bramble have working for them. I look forward to what the future holds.
